What do colleges think of Capstone Students?
Colleges approve of CAPS since so many have their own CAPS programs for Seniors. Like opportunities in programs like Theatre Ink, we provide an opportunity for students that they would not get until much later in their educations. Also, in 2015 our program certified by the NCAA. What is the difference between CAPS Research and CAPS Internship? Research students select a personal topic/issue about which they are passionate and conduct both secondary research (books, magazines, journals) as well as primary research (interviews, surveys, focus groups, internships) to assist them in creating a sizeable professional research paper on the issue; they also create a product related to their field/topic that deepens/applies the research they've done. Interns select an industry they would like to explore, reach out to those businesses, and find a supervisor with whom they would work directly. Interns put in 20-25 hours at the site as well as develop a website that both explores the industry itself, as well as reflects on their experiences at the industry. Do I have to do anything in the sign up process? Be supportive and talk to your child about what he/she realistically wants to do, and why. We have a parents' night to answer questions as well as go over program goals/benchmarks, so supporting the kids in this difficult, but rewarding program/procoess is crucial. If your child is under 18 years of age, you will need to sign a Consent and Release form. My kid wants to do CAPS but is nervous about having to present. Is the presentation mandatory? The final presentation is a requirement of the program, but we have been able to accommodate students with public presenting issues by modifying the presentation format (making the presentation closed door instead of public). While presenting is a major requirement towards successfully passing the program, our students do a lot of practice presentations to help them grow comfortable at presenting in front of their peers. |
